SCVAN APP & FORUM Development

case study

The South Carolina Victim Assistance Network is a group of pro bono lawyers and executive directors on a mission to provide incredible resources to victims and victim advocates throughout the state of South Carolina, including the most rural areas. They have spent years gathering incredible resources, hosting valuable webinars, and bringing together a list of assistance providers. Their problem? They needed a medium for putting that information into the hands of their audience.

Solution & Impact

This project was made possible by grants funded by the United States Criminal Justice Department, so our project roadmap had to be extremely detailed. We were able to divide the application into three parts. The app itself, has a dual purpose. The app without a login, takes users (victims) to the state wide resource directory that includes locations, contact information, web addresses, and other helpful information. That information is stored on the application and is available offline. With a state provided ID number and login, victim advocates not only have access to the resource directory, but they have access to an invaluable forum populated with questions and answers from veteran advocates, lawyers, law officers, and other officials. Users can follow threads, submit new questions, and build their own network with a few clicks. The forum is also available through the SCVAN website and gives users a desktop view with access to the same information stored on the app. The app was released in three different app stores and has been downloaded several thousand times. Their network of Victim Advocates has grown from several hundred to several thousand. The Department of Justice was pleased our development and the results. This project, from beginning to end, has become the model for the rest of the country to follow.
